This film looks at the exciting new use for the Shire Horse.
Introduced by John Ward Consultant to the Shire Horse Society we visit Elspeth Ross from Waldburg Shires who was the leading figure into riding the Shire Horse in this country.Elspeth uses her shires for the Lords Mayor Show and also for shows and film work.
Also featured is the Thames Valley Police Mounted Division who ride shire horses on their daily patrols in town centres and also for crowd control during riots and football matches.
Emma Green was also instrumental in promoting the Shire Horse for riding and now trains horses to be ridden.
Karen Whittaker was the winner of the riding championships at the Shire Horse Show in 2009 and continues competing on the showing circuit in the summer months.
Newcomer to riding the shires is Jane Kirk’s whose horse Challenger has won the riding championship at the National Shire Horse Show in 2010 & 2011.
